A Calumet City man died early Saturday morning after being in a traffic accident about 10 p.m. Friday night near 90 W. 69th St., according to Chicago Police.

Randall Robey, 46, of 309 Memorial Dr. in Calumet City was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 2:01 a.m., a Cook County Medical Examiner’s office spokesman said.

The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating the accident.

The first motorcycle crash happened about 8:30 a.m. Saturday when a husband and wife were killed near Illinois Route 47 and Smith Road in an unincorporated area near northwest suburban Elburn, the Kane County Sheriff’s office said.

Wade E. Thomas, 44, and Denise A. Thomas, 45, died, and six other people were injured when a Toyota Alera traveling south on Route 47 struck a Honda Civic that was stopped at the intersection, causing the Civic to enter the northbound lane in the path of a group of motorcycles.

The sheriff’s office said it appears that six motorcycles were involved in the crash and none of the riders were wearing a helmet.

The driver of the Alera, Alia N. Bernard, 24, of Aurora, was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, according to the sheriff’s office.

Later Saturday at about 8:50 p.m., a four-motorcycle crash on Interstate 57 at Interstate 80 led to the deaths of two men and a woman, Illinois State Police District Chicago said.

Michael Adams, 47, of 260 Longwood Ave. in Kankakee; Sean Darke, 34, of 9104 S. Luella Ave.; and Brianna Moore, 20, of Calumet City, were killed in the crash, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Adams and Darke both died Saturday night at South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest and Moore died Sunday afternoon at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

All three victims suffered multiple injuries from a motorcycle crash and their deaths were ruled accidents, according to autopsies performed by the medical examiner’s office.

A second woman was also seriously injured and taken to Christ Medical Center, State Police said.

The crash happened when a motorcycle heading south on I-57 made an illegal U-turn to go northbound on I-57 and pulled directly into the path of three northbound motorcycles carrying the victims, causing a chain reaction accident, according to ISP District Chicago Master Sgt. Joe Stangl.

At least one of the women was a passenger on one of the bikes, Stangl said.

Aaron Brown, 28, of Olympia Fields, the driver of the bike that made the U-turn, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and for disregarding a traffic sign, State Police said.

No alcohol appears to be involved in the accident and further charges are not likely, Stangl said.

Early Sunday, Martez Nile, 34, of 455 Hirsch Ave. in Calumet City, was killed in a motorcycle accident at Dolton Road and Crandon Avenue in Calumet City, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Nile died of multiple injuries from a motorcycle crash, according to a Monday autopsy, which ruled his death an accident.

The crash happened at 3:52 a.m. and Nile was driving the motorcycle, police said.

Two more people — a man and woman believed to be a married couple — were killed Monday afternoon when their car struck a median and burst into flames on the Elgin-O’Hare Expressway near west suburban Roselle.

The crash happened when a vehicle westbound on the expressway veered left into the grassy median near Meacham Road at 3:30 p.m. and collided head-on with the concrete base of an overhead sign, Illinois State Police Elgin District said.

The driver, 85-year-old Elmo Ramello and his passenger, 85-year-old Alfreda Ramello, both of 7922 W. Birchdale Ave. in Elmwood Park, were killed in the crash, according to State Police.

Ramello may have suffered a medical emergency that caused him to lose control of the vehicle, authorities said.
